It tells the day to day agony and glory of serving during wartime with a loved one at home (Irene). Mac being a Chicago native gives references to his hometown. It brings the war home. Life as it was lived with old photograghs, Western Union messages, hand written letters, typed documents, paintings make WWII a reality for all to savor.
